Zubair Firoz Kutchi Dholi
His story

From a Garba band in Kutch to dance floors across the USA

Zubair Firoz was born in Kutch, Gujarat, which is where the name Kutchi Dholi comes from. His father sang with a band that played Garba nights and Navratri. As a boy, Zubair went along to the gigs, and the band’s musicians let him sit at the drums.

He went from sitting in to performing with the band, then to leading a larger band in front of big crowds while still very young. Today, after 25+ years on the dhol, he is based in Houston and travels across the USA for weddings and celebrations.

He plays Bollywood, Gujarati, Garba, Punjabi and Pakistani folk, on dhol, matki, rototoms, electronic pads, Zendrum and congas. His measure of a good night has not changed: nobody stays seated.
